2019/03: Ukrainian presidential election

Although the presidential election is still quite far away (it will be held on March 31, 2019), some politicians have already announced their intention to run.

Yulia Tymoshenko

The statement of the leader of the party „Fatherland“ Yulia Tymoshenko about the intention to run for President in 2019 was not a surprise.

Tymoshenko on air of one of TV channels declared that „intends to win to put the country on feet“.

 

Thus, the former Prime Minister joined the circle of politicians who have already announced their presidential ambitions.

Oleg Lyashko

The leader of the „Radical party“ Oleg Lyashko announced his intention to run for President for quite a long time, namely in February 2017, announcing his goal to the society through a video message on Facebook.


„I am not interested in the speaker’s position, because I am going to run in the next presidential elections in Ukraine,“ Lyashko said.


For the first time in the presidential election Lyashko participated in 2014. Then he scored 8.32% of the vote and immediately took third place in the election race, missing forward only Yulia Tymoshenko and Petro Poroshenko.


„I have great ambitions, I want to win the presidential election,“ Lyashko repeated in July this year.

Hope Savchenko

The people’s Deputy Nadezhda Savchenko declared intention to run for President in July of 2017 in an interview with „Glavkom“.


According to her, to participate in the presidential campaign „really needs some 2.5 million hryvnia.“


„The Fund opens and honestly says: I collect money for the presidency. I will take part, and as further – it will be visible“, – she told.

Sergey Kaplin

At the end of September 2017, MP Sergei Kaplin announced his upcoming participation in the elections.


On the page in Facebook the people’s Deputy declared that became the only candidate for presidents from „left“ – the block „for simple people“.


„We are going to win-to win the presidential election. And I am grateful that „left“ believed in me as the uniform candidate“, – he wrote.

Ilya Kiva

Former Head of the Department of national Police to combat drug crime Ilya Kiva October 23, 2017 during The „evening Prime“ channel „112 Ukraine“ announced its intention to participate in the presidential elections in 2019.


„Of course, I will participate (in the elections – ed.). I have to prepare myself now. There’s no other way to win. This is a competition, this is a sport, “ the politician said.

„Nothing can stop me. The time will come and I will win, if not in 2019, then let through elections. And it will happen. I know, I believe in it, because I came into politics,“ said Kiva.


Later, Kiva confirmed his intention on the Facebook page. „I, Kiva Ilya, will take part in the presidential election!!!“- he wrote. Rather Yes than no. At the moment, there are a number of politicians who have not yet officially confirmed their participation in the presidential elections, but are likely to do so.

Petro Poroshenko

In may 2017, the current head of state Petro Poroshenko during a press conference commented on whether he will go for a second term.


„As for the second term, according to the Constitution, every citizen of Ukraine, however, with certain restrictions, those who are already 35 years old, I already have 35 years, have the right to run for President,“ he said.

The leader of the“ National corps „and the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Biletsky said about his goal in an interview with“ Censor “ in August 2017. He answered Yes to the journalist’s question about his presidential ambitions. „If I went into politics, it is necessary to set a maximum goal,“ he added.

In particular, in March 2017, representatives of the three parties signed a document entitled „national Manifesto“, which outlined common political goals. Therefore, there is a possibility that in the upcoming presidential elections, these forces will put up a single candidate.

According to opinion polls in 2017, the main struggle for the future presidency should unfold between the current head of state Petro Poroshenko and the leader of the „Fatherland“ Yulia Tymoshenko.


Poroshenko, according to polls, on average gaining 10-11%, Tymoshenko, according to various estimates, support from 10 to 15% of the electorate.


At the same time, according to the latest survey published by the im centre on 23 October. Razumkova, Poroshenko in the elections received the support of 14% of the electorate, Tymoshenko-8.4%.


It should be noted that various polls published various data concerning the winner: in some Poroshenko takes the first place, in some his rival. At the same time, Poroshenko himself has not yet officially announced his participation in the upcoming elections.
